Canarias y Mauritania seal an energy alliance: Key points from the industrial forum opening registrations on Oneport

Corporate diplomacy between the Canary Islands and West Africa is set to take a more pragmatic turn, away from purely institutional rhetoric. On 22 and 23 July 2026, the Hotel Livvo Lumm in Las Palmas will become the focal point for bilateral negotiations between business delegations from both territories. The high-level roundtable, under the slogan ‘Electricity for Industrialisation’, has officially opened its registration period for any corporations interested in strengthening their market share in sub-Saharan Africa. You can register here.

The meeting, organized by the Oneport employers’ association together with the specialized consultancy Mauritania Gateway, aims to structure a channel for direct investment and technology transfer. Mauritania is facing a critical phase of macroeconomic transformation, driven by the discovery of major natural gas deposits and an ambitious transition plan toward renewable energies. Canary companies, with experience in port logistics, isolated systems engineering, and industrial desalination, are positioning themselves as priority partners in this modernization process.

The SOMELEC plan under a corporate lens

The technical day will focus on the presentation of the national infrastructure program of the Société Mauritanienne d’Electricité (SOMELEC). The Mauritanian state utility will outline its investment needs in transmission networks, distribution systems, and energy storage to support new industrial development zones in the country. Rolling out this roadmap requires a sophisticated logistics backbone that the ports of Las Palmas and Tenerife can handle with full operational guarantees.

Canary businesses will attend with the goal of securing contracts for auxiliary services, regulatory consulting, and the installation of hybrid generation plants. Existing synergies between both territories reduce traditional transaction costs in cross-border trade. Regular maritime connectivity and the islands’ special tax regime act as project accelerators for multinationals seeking to establish intermediate logistics bases aimed at the African market.

Public-private cooperation without institutional rhetoric

The organizers have designed a format focused exclusively on operational profitability and the feasibility of technical projects. The forum avoids generic panels in favor of sector-specific working tables, where engineering, heavy-load logistics, and the supply of industrial components will be addressed. The initiative has the strategic backing of the public internationalization company Proexca and the industrial holding Grupo Zamakona, a benchmark in ship repair and international port logistics.

Technical debate will be supervised by experienced industry profiles. José Mayor and Nayra Delgado will serve as panel moderators for the investment meetings, while Bernardo Sagastume, an economic information analyst, will handle the macroeconomic outlook analysis. The program structure ensures that technical discussions result in business proposals suitable for the government of Nouakchott’s public tenders in the short term.

Preferential access and B2B meetings

Participation in the forum is free, subject to official registration on the event platform. The real added value of the day lies in the bilateral meeting schedule (B2B) that registered companies will be able to arrange individually. These direct meetings will bring together SOMELEC procurement decision-makers, senior executives from the main Mauritanian construction companies, and service providers from the archipelago—removing intermediaries from the negotiation chain.

The dynamism of the West Africa market demands fast responses from industrial services companies operating from the archipelago. Companies interested in securing a place on the agenda of individual meetings with the Mauritanian delegation must complete their registration. The full program of working sessions and the registration form for the 23 July roundtable are already available via the official registration portal.
