Operational activity at the port facilities of Arrecife and La Luz during the first half of September highlights the dominance of independent operators in the transport of bulk cargo, general cargo and container logistics. An analysis of the berthing log places Juan Betancort López, J.A. Arocha (Wrist) and Cargo Lanzarote at the forefront in terms of the largest volumes of cargo handled at the archipelago’s commercial berths.

Massive fuel discharges and special operations at Los Mármoles

The supply of petroleum products accounted for the largest tonnage at Los Mármoles pier through ship agent J.A. Arocha. The company coordinated the unloading of 2,000 tonnes of gasoline and 1,500 tonnes of diesel from the Hesperides, as well as the discharge of an additional 2,000 tonnes of gasoline from the Dacil. The same vessel had operated hours earlier at the island’s buoy field, unloading 2,000 tonnes of petroleum products. The agency’s energy-related operations were completed by the call of the Vetra, which supplied 200 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gases.

Cargo Lanzarote handled the period’s most complex operation by overseeing the merchant vessel Manisa Silvana. The vessel required three consecutive berthing maneuvers at the Transbordo Naciente alignment to complete the partial unloading of 913 tonnes of machinery, tools and spare parts. The agency also managed the Islas Dos’s continued stay at Oblique Quay for the discharge of 2,700 tonnes of cement and clinker.

Containerized cargo and international freight for general cargo

General cargo and containerized traffic in Lanzarote was handled by a diverse group of specialized agents. Juan Betancort López coordinated the continuous calls of the merchant vessel Sicilia, responsible for unloading and loading more than 6,000 tonnes of mixed cargo, along with the operational calls of the Volcán de Tamadaba, the Volcán de Tinamar and the Josefina de la Torre.

In the container segment, W.E.C. Lines España operated the vessels Trouper and WEC Jan Steen, while Alisios Shipping Lines handled the transshipment operations of the merchant vessel Einstein. Delfin Lines Canarias moved cargo at the Transbordo Naciente pier aboard the Milagreen, CMA CGM Ibérica operated the CMA CGM Andalucia, and ship agent Miller Y Cía handled the calls of the freighter Lola B and the passenger vessel SH Diana.

Steady stream of bulk carriers and technical calls at the port of La Luz in Gran Canaria

At the Port of La Luz, the operational volume handled by independent ship agents was concentrated in the northern and southern anchorages for technical assistance and provisioning services. Alfaship Shipping Agency coordinated the maneuvers of the vessels Karpathos, Star Fighter and NV Minerva, the latter subsequently carrying out a tactical berthing maneuver at the Juan Sebastián Elcano breakwater.

The list of agents at the Gran Canaria port facility included GAC Shipping Spain, with the call of the 183-meter-long tanker Mia Grace; Wilhelmsen Ships Service, with the calls of the merchant vessels Annegrit and Santa Venera; Noatum Maritime Spain, which attended the vessels Dubai Ocean, Wiebke and Industrial Challenger; Erhardt Shipping Services, with the call of the Scot Bremen; Next Maritime, with the Tiger Fisher; and A. Pérez y Cía, with the operations involving the Yuan Xing Ri Zhao and the Alkiviadis.
