While the halls of Messe Düsseldorf buzz with the premiere of the superyachts of the 2026 season, a delegation from the Provincial Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises of Metal and New Technologies of Las Palmas (Femepa) has executed a surgical mission: to reposition the Canary Islands on the global map of the blue economy with the backing of regional funds from the Ministry of Economy (PP). This week, there are also Canarian entrepreneurs without official oversight and the Maritime Cluster of the Canary Islands, which is headquartered where Femepa is located. The mission is not led by Femepa President Patricia Jiménez, but by executive Juan Carlos Betancor.
Femepa has included in this trip, funded by Proexca (CC), one of the former officials and executives of Accomar, Juan Francisco Martín, who signed a letter against the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada (CC). Together, these former officials represent 150 years of experience in the public sector. In November, Puertos y Navieras expanded data: CC.OO joined the theory of retired officials who request to be consulted, among other matters, which were requested by letter and later appeared in local media without Calzada having time to respond out of courtesy. Martín’s presence at an event with Femepa would highlight the need to accelerate a lobby registration in the port of Las Palmas.
The former official on a business mission has been at the German fair accompanied by notable names such as Alisios Sailing Center, Rolnautic (Varadero and Yachts), and Yamaha Motor. The neuralgic point of the week has been the International Breakfast Meeting (B2B). In this format, the Canarian delegation seeks not only direct sales but also integration into global supply networks. According to the general secretary of Femepa, this meeting is the ‘passport’ to connect with clusters in Northern Europe.
