The Port Authority of Las Palmas has designed a containment strategy to avoid operational vacancies in one of the most sensitive commercial and leisure areas of the Gran Canaria capital. The Board of Directors, chaired by Beatriz Calzada, has agreed to extend the timeline for processing concessions and extensions for businesses based in the Dársena de Embarcaciones Menores (DEM) until December 31, 2029. This resolution grants a three-year lifeline to a business fabric that operates under interim conditions while the public tender that will transfer the comprehensive management of the marina to a single private operator is defined.
The measure from the public body seeks to maintain economic activity and employment in a port area that combines sports boating with dining services. The new organizational model will delegate the allocation of commercial premises to the future concessionaire of the dock, a structural change that keeps the sector in suspense. Nautical service companies, equipment marketing, and ship repair firms such as Rodritol S.L. have already formalized their applications to take advantage of this transition period, ensuring their operational continuity at the docks.
Cleaning of moorings and tension in the pontoons
In parallel to the stability granted to the businesses, the port has tightened its disciplinary policy concerning the water surface. The Board of Directors has authorized the administrative eviction of three new vessels occupying berths irregularly, bringing the total number of evictions carried out within the port authority’s regularization plan to 34. This recovery campaign for spaces responds to the need to optimize the moorings and free congested areas in anticipation of high-impact international events.
The regulatory pressure on boat users has been supported by the dismissal of seven appeals filed by affected owners. The sanctioning files reveal that several holders systematically refused to vacate the transient berths, spaces reserved for the international fleet of the transatlantic regatta ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers). The legal firmness of the Port Authority confirms the priority of safeguarding international logistical commitments over unauthorized use of public spaces.
Budget adjustments and security agreements
Outside the sports dock, the Board has adopted decisions of significant technical and economic scope. In the realm of security, it has been determined not to award the contract for a rescue vehicle with an articulated arm intended for the local fire department, a tender that exceeded one million euros. The paralysis of the technical file is justified by a report from the Fire Extinction and Rescue Service (SEIS) that determined the operational obsolescence of the bid model compared to the current needs of the docks. Nevertheless, the port maintains its four-year contribution of 1.2 million euros to the City Council for the renewal of protective equipment.
