Works for what will be the best port in the Central Atlantic in a NATO country, Granadilla. Thus moves Tenerife: its ports, in terms of profitability, are practically similar to those of its logistical counterpart in Las Palmas because captive traffic and passenger traffic have accelerated margins, allowing for the generation of works. The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has activated a new phase in the development of the Port of Granadilla with the tender for the works for the closure and outfitting of the Muelle de Ribera, a key infrastructure to complete the planned docking line in the area. The action, approved by the board of directors chaired by Pedro Suárez, is part of a broader investment program that plans to allocate nearly 90 million euros for the development of the port until 2029.The ongoing tender has a base budget of 39.3 million euros and an estimated execution period of twenty months. The project also has European financing, as approximately 85% of the investment is backed by the European Regional Development Fund within the multi-regional program of Spain for the period 2021-2027. The works will complete the remaining 543 meters of dock required to close the total of 1,045 meters planned in the infrastructure. For this, eleven large precast concrete boxes of 48 meters in length each will be installed, elements that will serve as structural base for the new section of the dock. The construction of these pieces requires a continuous concreting process for 24 hours to prevent the material from setting before each module is completed. Necessary conduits for basic dock services, including telecommunications, low voltage networks, water supply, and lighting, will be installed on this structure. The design also includes the civil works necessary for the potential future implementation of a power supply system for ships in port, technology known as OPS that allows ships to connect to the electrical grid while docked and thus reduce their emissions. The completion of the Muelle de Ribera will also create a large logistics platform of about thirty hectares. This area is considered strategic by the port authority, as it will facilitate the establishment of new industrial, logistical, and port activities linked to the development of the enclave. According to Pedro Suárez, the incomplete closure of the port continues to affect the availability of berths and limits the level of activity in the dock. “Our commitment to Granadilla is absolute,” said the president of the port authority, recalling that the current investment plan includes nearly 90 million euros until 2029 to consolidate the operation of the port. The tender will be processed through an open procedure, allowing the participation of interested companies that meet the established technical and economic requirements. Offers must be submitted through the Public Sector Contracting Platform, and the announcement will also be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. If the administrative schedule progresses as planned, the awarding of the works could take place next September. The initiation of the process has been made possible following authorization from the Council of Ministers on February 10, necessary because the contract amount exceeds twelve million euros. With this step, the port authority seeks to accelerate the consolidation of the Port of Granadilla as a fully operational infrastructure within the Canary Island port system and strengthen its role as a logistics platform in the Atlantic.
