The race for internal renewal in the Ministry of Health has placed Betsabé Morales, director of the Port of Las Palmas Foundation, at the center of all political attention in the archipelago. The leadership change, which is being crafted under strict discretion in government offices, aims to accelerate pending operational reforms and ensure the stability of the government pact during the final stage of the legislature. Her technical profile, being a native of Gran Canaria and a member of CC, and her management capacity emerge as the option with the greatest traction within Coalición Canaria to take control of critical areas in the department with the highest budget of the autonomous government, a position that the nationalist party secured in Gran Canaria following the institutional pact signed with the Popular Party. Aside from whether she becomes a councilor or not, the truth is that Morales is on the list of candidates to be part of the future core of the Government of the Canary Islands in 2027, should CC win the elections or be part of the Canary Executive. With a year to go before the elections, CC in Gran Canaria does not want technicians at the helm of autonomous departments, as has happened with CC in Tenerife with Candelaria Delgado in Social Rights, who in such a strategic regional portfolio has zero electoral pull. Therefore, with 12 months to an electoral date, CC in Gran Canaria seeks high-resolution political profiles. Morales’s movement in the bets of maximum suitability responds to a strategy of internal reactivation designed by the party’s strategists to safeguard health management ahead of the last year of Fernando Clavijo’s presidential term. Morales’s name is moving alongside another candidate, the director general of Assistance Programs of the Canary Health Service (SCS), Antonia María Pérez. If appointed as Health Councilor, Morales would be the boss of the director of the Canary Health Service, Adasat Goya. The promotion of Morales reflects in CC the need to incorporate executive profiles with a strong bond to the organization to unblock the management of the complex hospital systems and primary care in the eastern islands. While other traditional names from the nationalist ranks, like Antonia Pérez, complete the trio of candidates, Betsabé Morales’s advancement stands out for the consensus it generates among the various territorial families of the party. Pérez inaugurated last Friday in Las Palmas the 48th Congress of the Spanish Association of Nursing in Neurosciences, a high-voltage professional event supported by the president of the Canary Nurses Council, Rita Mendoza, and the executive leadership of the Insular-Materno Infantil University Hospital Complex, headed by its managing director, José Blanco López. Amid the nationalist betting frenzy, the event has not been well received in some sectors of CC because, knowing a trio existed, it could have been launched to gauge the institutional weight of the general director before the clinical elite of the islands, just as the government pact with the Popular Party requires precise evaluation of any personnel changes in the eastern departments. The core of Antonia Pérez’s intervention has mathematically aligned with the directives of the new security order of the SCS, defending the use of Artificial Intelligence as a predictive tool to anticipate risks.
