The image of the Noble Voyager, the Samsung 96K-design drilling vessel measuring 238 meters in length, stands out these days on the waterfront of the Port of Las Palmas, reports Europa Press. After concluding its dry dock at Navantia Ferrol, the drilling giant has docked at the facilities of Grupo Hidramar to carry out a phase of modernization and technical maintenance that positions the Gran Canaria capital on the map of high-complexity operations.
The project is a precision engineering exercise. The intervention involves critical modifications to the motion compensator, located atop the drilling tower, as well as the installation of a new generation crane with greater load capacity. To carry out these maneuvers, the group has mobilized one of the most powerful lifting equipment in Europe, a key component to ensure the viability of the work on a structure of this size.
The presence of the Noble Voyager in Canary waters is not coincidental. It confirms the rise of the Port of Las Palmas as an international reference center for the most modern and versatile fleet in the industry. The proven competency in maintaining mission-critical equipment —from thrusters to drilling systems— validates the industrial maturity of the archipelago, which now competes under internationally demanding standards.
The upcoming weeks of work aboard the Noble Voyager will serve as a thermometer for this installed capacity, consolidating Hidramar and the Canary port infrastructure as the fundamental link to ensure the operability of drilling fleets in deep-water environments.
