Technology: TCTenerife (Aleatica) boosts operational performance at Ports of Tenerife
The TCTenerife container terminal (Aleatica) has completed a new step in modernising its fleet of machinery at the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The company has formalised the purchase and operational integration of two Kalmar TR618i port tractors, equipped with all-wheel drive (4×4) and designed specifically for the heavy handling of cargo in logistics environments with high operational demands. The investment aims to optimise performance in the capital’s dock area at a time marked by the need to reduce vessel berth-stay times and speed up the island distribution supply chains.
The newly acquired units stand out for their lifting capacity of up to 36 tonnes over the fifth wheel—an engineering feature geared towards handling platforms and wheeled platforms with high gross weights. The four-wheel traction configuration gives the equipment greater grip and stability on complex surfaces or under adverse weather conditions, improving operational safety during manoeuvres between the storage yard and the berthing quays.
The equipment upgrade reflects TCTenerife’s strategy to raise productivity levels within the terminal. Introducing high-performance machinery helps accelerate the rotation of crane movements per hour, reducing operational dependencies and improving the flow of import and export cargo traffic. Company management frames the arrival of the Kalmar tractors as part of its commitment to continuous improvement in the service standards provided to shipowners and freight forwarders operating within the Tenerife facility.
The reinforcement of the yard fleet takes place in a context of growing demands for efficiency across Canary Island ports. The ability to respond quickly to variations in cargo volumes is critical to preserving the Archipelago’s maritime connectivity routes. With the deployment of latest-generation technology in its towing systems, TCTenerife consolidates its strategic position as a reference infrastructure for regional port logistics, combining greater technical power with optimised resource management.
