The Port of Las Palmas returned this Thursday to be at the center of Spain’s international cooperation strategy in Latin America. This week, within the framework of the inauguration of the 6th edition of the Modern Port Management Course in Buenos Aires, the Gran Canaria port has been highlighted as one of the fundamental ‘partner ports’ supporting the TrainForTrade program of UNCTAD (United Nations). The participation of Las Palmas in this initiative, backed by the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Buenos Aires, is not coincidental. As a tricontinental logistics node, the Canary port provides a unique perspective on managing goods flows between Europe, Africa, and America, a knowledge that is critical for the professionalization of management positions within the Argentine port system. Under the supervision of the Valenciaport Foundation and Ports State, the Port of Las Palmas acts as a laboratory of best practices for students of CENCAPOR (National Port Training Center). Canary experts share with their Argentine counterparts solutions in areas where Las Palmas is a leader, such as bunkering or digitalization, to reduce waiting times and operational costs at the ship-shore interface. The Las Palmas-Buenos Aires axis: A commercial bridge. For the Spanish diplomatic delegation in Argentina, having Las Palmas as a technical partner strengthens the ‘Marca España’ in the infrastructure sector. The training of Argentine managers under the Las Palmas model facilitates that, in the future, Canary companies and operators of the Port of La Luz find common ground —both technical and regulatory— to expand their investments in the South Atlantic. The inauguration of this edition, which was attended by Juan Manuel Díez Orejas (Valenciaport Foundation) and UNCTAD officials, confirms that Las Palmas no longer only exports logistics services but also port intelligence. In a global market where training is the new infrastructure, the Port of Las Palmas secures a seat at the table where the future of logistics in the Southern Cone is designed.
