The logistics giant Kuehne+Nagel has consolidated its strategic position in the Canary Islands after signing a five-year agreement with Santillana, the leading publisher of the Finnish group Sanoma, previously owned by Prisa. This alliance, aimed at transforming educational logistics, has one of its epicenters in the Canary archipelago.
As part of the agreement, Kuehne+Nagel will take over the comprehensive management of storage and distribution of educational materials nationwide. To this end, it will operate two strategic centers totaling more than 20,000 m²: one in Valdemoro (Madrid) and another in Telde. The Telde center will have a staff integrated into a global team of 80 people for this project. The facilities in Gran Canaria will enable efficient supply to retailers and educational centers throughout the region. Advanced transport management systems will be implemented to provide end-to-end visibility in the supply chain.
This expansion in the educational sector coincides with the relevance of the firm as a trusted provider in the maritime field of the islands. Alvaro Nebreda, National Logistics Director at Kuehne+Nagel Spain, has emphasized that the company’s operational experience in the Canary Islands will ensure a ‘smooth transition’ for Santillana’s staff. For his part, Alejandro Castex, General Director of Sanoma, highlighted that this agreement reinforces the publisher’s commitment to quality and proximity in the Canarian educational community.
With the opening of its center in Telde and its proven technical capacity at the Port of La Luz, Kuehne+Nagel reaffirms its role as the logistical engine connecting Gran Canaria with global markets, whether through books or the management of large international vessels.
