The Port of La Luz and Las Palmas now has a salary roadmap for the current fiscal year. The General Directorate of Labor has officially announced the agreement of the Joint Commission of the ship agency, stevedoring, and port operation contractors sector, validating an update of the salary tables that takes effect retroactively from January 1, 2026.
The significance of this agreement lies in its revaluation mechanism. In the absence of a new collective agreement, the employer organization (Asocelpa) and unions (CCOO) have implemented the ultra-activity clause, which directly links port wages to the behavior of public pensions. Thus, workers in the sector will see their salaries increase by the same percentage that the State has established for Social Security benefits through Royal Decree-Law 16/2025.
The minutes of the Joint Commission, signed by representatives such as Francisco Naranjo and Gustavo Vidueira for the employer side, and Patricia Azcona for the union side, also establish a ‘safety net’ for the lowest categories. Companies in the Port are required to supplement the remuneration of any worker who, after the update, does not reach the current Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI) for 2026. This technical adjustment ensures that the economic engine of the capital of Gran Canaria does not lose purchasing power in a context of social vulnerability, using the pension index as a metric of stability.
