The Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife recorded a total of 78 calls by merchant vessels represented by independent agencies during August. Although total non-commercial traffic reached 110 calls, Miller y Cía.’s operations have been excluded from the main count—32 calls in total—as 30 of its attendances involving ‘B’ series container ships (Carlota B, Lola B, Nieves B, Beatriz B and Charo B) were carried out under a corporate self-supply arrangement, with the company acting as an integrated agent within Boluda Corporación Marítima and Naviera Pinillos.
Alfaship, JA Arocha and MH Bland lead the open market
Considering only the open market serving third-party clients, Agencia Marítima Alfaship topped the island ranking with 28 services, followed by JA Arocha, part of Danish giant Wrist Ship Supply, with 16 attendances, and MH Bland with 12 operations. The independent ranking was completed by Contenerfrut (8 calls), A. Pérez y Cía. (4 operations involving external fleets), Vapores Suardiaz (4 calls), Miller y Cía. (2 attendances for third parties), Línea Naviera Alisios (2 operations), Noatum Maritime (1 call) and Tenerife Shipyards (1 service).
Alfaship dominates anchorage and nautical services
Alfaship (28 operations) dominated the nautical services and in-transit fleet support segment, operating mainly in Anchorage Area 2 and the South Quay. The company focused its activity on technical assistance, provisioning, crew changes and supplies for tankers and large merchant vessels, coordinating operations for the Sonangol Cazenga, Karpathos, Adel and Diamante Paiwan.
JA Arocha consolidates its position in liquid bulk and refinery logistics
JA Arocha (16 operations), a company within Danish multinational Wrist Group, the world’s largest ship supplier, strengthened its position as the leading agent for petroleum product logistics, marine chemicals and provisioning. The company linked its operations to the Hondura Quay facilities and Anchorage Area 2, handling the Dacil tanker’s repeated calls and providing anchorage assistance to the merchant vessels Estrella de Antwerp, A3 Special and Gisela.
MH Bland consolidates offshore coverage on the Atlantic route
Gibraltar-based MH Bland (12 operations) focused its strategy on comprehensive open-water offshore services in Anchorage Area 2. The agency supported large tankers and freighters on the Atlantic route, coordinating the delivery of supplies, underwater hull inspections and personnel changes for the Águila Escarlata, Nonaki, Sea Charger and Silver Queen.
Contenerfrut leads refrigerated and fishing cargo handling
Contenerfrut (8 operations) worked between the East Basin and the Fishing Basin, focusing on bulk cargo, palletized goods and perishable products. Through medium- and long-term berthings by the Apolo ED, Gueltat and Cabo Verde, the company managed refrigerated cargo unloading and provisioning operations for the island’s distribution and fishing fleets.
Miller y Cía.’s share affected by Boluda’s self-supply operations
Valencia-based Miller y Cía. (2 operations involving independent third parties out of a total of 32) carried out the overwhelming majority of its activity under the corporate arrangement. Its actual share of the open third-party market at Bufadero Quay was limited to the two calls by the container ship Samskip Toubkal (IMO 9584475), an international Atlantic feeder outside the corporate structure of its own shipping company.
Pérez y Cía. and Suardiaz sustain industrial and ro-ro traffic
Pérez y Cía. (4 operations involving external fleets) and Vapores Suardiaz (4 operations) maintained services for industrial supplies, chemicals and the ro-ro fleet. Pérez y Cía. served the external tankers Enebro Oriental and Chemical Vanguard, as well as the freighter Helmut, while Suardiaz handled the logistics of vehicles and industrial equipment aboard the Suar Vigo.
Specialized anchorage and ship-repair operations
Línea Naviera Alisios (2 operations), Noatum Maritime (1 operation) and Tenerife Shipyards (1 operation) completed the monthly list with specialized activities. Alisios handled cargo operations for the container ship Einstein, Noatum handled the call by the LNG carrier Finima II in the anchorage area, and Tenerife Shipyards provided agency services and direct technical support to the vessel under repair, Princesa Bos, in the East Basin.
