The Trabajadores por los Puertos de Canarias (TPC) union has threatened to take its complaint to the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) over the “impossibility” of creating jobs at La Luz Autoport Terminal, owned by Domingo Alonso Group, Europa Press reports.
In a statement, the union said the situation was the result of a blockade caused by pressure from what it described as a “alleged cartel” made up of Boluda, Astican and the dockworkers’ collective “under the umbrella” of Fedeport.
TPC described the development of La Luz Autoport as a “disgrace”. The union recalled that the project was initially led by the heads of the Fedeport employers’ association and Astican, whom it accused of “betraying” their partners at Domingo Alonso “to become embroiled in a commercial dispute that is seriously damaging the local labour market”.
TPC has also sent a letter to Beatriz Calzada, president of the Las Palmas Port Authority (APLP), urging her to “play fair” in defence of free competition. In addition, the union called on the Círculo de Empresarios de Gran Canaria to issue a formal statement of support for Domingo Alonso Group “because if things go well for them, there is work”. “And that is what we defend. We have no qualms about supporting a company and asking the administration to apply common sense,” it added.
Finally, Trabajadores por los Puertos de Canarias “firmly” condemned the transformation of the Port of Las Palmas into a “business for four”.
