Solstad Maritime to deploy Normand Cutter in West Africa

The Norwegian company Solstad Maritime, which specialises in support vessels for the offshore energy industry, has signed a letter of intent with an unnamed company to charter its subsea construction vessel (CSV) Normand Cutter. The commercial deal provides for an initial firm term of three years, with the option to extend it by another three optional periods.

The contract will formally begin between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027 in West Africa. As a key part of the deployment, Solstad will not only supply the vessel, but will also provide an integrated technical solution with the specialist firm Omega Subsea. The package includes the supply of two work-class remote operated vehicles (ROVs), their respective technical crew and equipment, specialised tools, inspection services and project management personnel.

108 million contract with Petrobras underpins strategy

Solstad Maritime has strengthened a key strategic move by confirming a $108 million contract with Petrobras for the Normand Commander support vessel, which will operate for four years starting in 2026. While the agreement reinforces the Norwegian firm’s presence in the South American market, the operation forms part of a global strategy directly linked to the intensification of heavy offshore activity on the African continent.

Logistics and staffing support Atlantic and African expansion

The company’s operational consolidation in South America strengthens the logistics and staffing infrastructure through which Solstad Maritime fulfils its commitments in the South Atlantic basin and the Africa region. The contractual structure applied to the Normand Commander reflects the company’s model of operational flexibility, enabling it to deploy high-technology units in emerging deep-water markets—an essential capability to meet the growing demand for integrated solutions along the coast of West Africa.

Norwegian group keeps Africa as a key pillar

With a combined fleet of 40 specialised vessels and a global workforce of more than 2,200 employees, the Norwegian group maintains Africa as one of its fundamental geopolitical and industrial pillars. The technical experience built up through subsea intervention and construction support will help address the expansion of oil and gas activity along Africa’s coastline, where the firm combines the chartering of deep-draft units with next-generation technological services.
