The Port Authority of Las Palmas has entered the second quarter of the year with a roadmap for massive contracting. The analysis of the status of its files reveals an aggressive commitment to technical renewal and supply capacity. At the top of the spending pyramid is the new service gallery for fuel supply. This strategic work, tendered for 2.55 million euros, aims to consolidate the port’s leadership in the Atlantic bunker market.
The development of industrial land in peripheral ports concentrates multimillion-euro budgets. The project for new roads in adjoining plots of the Port of Arinaga is under evaluation for an amount of 2.32 million euros. This investment adds to the improvement works of plots in the same area already resolved for 586,708 euros. These figures suggest a diversification strategy to decongest the operations of the capital and attract new logistics operators to Gran Canaria.
Port security constitutes another backbone of the current budget. The entity has put out to tender the supply of a surveillance vessel for the Port Police for 360,000 euros. In parallel, the execution of structures for the installation of radars at various docks is advancing for 315,562 euros. In the digital realm, the awarding of the cloud-based service for digital certificate custody for 150,000 euros stands out, a critical step to ensure the integrity of administrative communications.
The modernization of the waterfront and attention to the cruise sector show significant progress. The administration awarded this week the complementary works in the vicinity of the new Santa Catalina maritime station for 562,139 euros. This project complements the tender for the lighting of new areas in the same zone, with a budget of 263,534 euros. The actions reinforce the infrastructure for receiving tourists in anticipation of the upcoming high season.
The management by Beatriz Calzada maintains territorial balance in the archipelago. In Fuerteventura, the expansion of the pilot dock and the closure of the cruise pier in Puerto del Rosario stand out. The Port of Arrecife in Lanzarote is progressing in the installation of PBIP security in the Los Mármoles dock for 67,064 euros. Both islands are also advancing in drafting their respective strategic plans for universal accessibility with specialized technical assistance.
Environmental control and efficiency in basic services close the circle of expenditure. The recent awarding of technical assistance for the control of MARPOL waste and fuel supply for 434,720 euros demonstrates that the port authority seeks not only to grow in volume. The supervision of services provided to international shipping companies is essential to maintain quality standards. With more than 320 active files, the Port of Las Palmas positions itself as the main driver of public tenders in the islands.
