Red Eléctrica de España (REE) has initiated administrative procedures to strengthen the safety and capacity of electrical supply at the port facilities in the capital of Tenerife. The General Directorate of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has made public the project for the Expansion of the SE Dique del Este to 66 kV, a strategic action aimed at providing the existing substation with a new emergency generation position.
The project, budgeted at 679,071 euros, includes the installation of AIS-type equipment (air-insulated) with a single bus configuration. This expansion is essential to ensure the reliability of supply in a critical area that combines industrial activity, intense maritime traffic, and the growing demand for port services, ensuring the continuity of service in the event of any network eventuality.
In accordance with current regulations, the announcement published this March 2026 in the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands (BOC) opens a period of thirty business days for any individual or legal entity to examine the technical documentation. The complete file is available for consultation both in person at the Ministry offices in Santa Cruz de Tenerife —by appointment— and through the telematic link provided by the regional government.
‘This action is part of the ongoing efforts to adapt the transport network to the economic development needs of the islands,’ sector sources indicate. Once the public information period has concluded and any possible objections have been resolved, the General Directorate of Energy will proceed to evaluate the final administrative authorization for the commencement of the works in the municipality of Tenerife.
