Norwegian shipping giant Bonheur overwhelms Baleària in the Canaries with a 600,000-passenger gap
Passenger traffic between the islands during the second quarter of 2026 confirms a stark gap in the distribution of market share across the archipelago. Operational records for the period from April to June show the clear dominance of Fred. Olsen S.A., which tops island connectivity after registering 598,163 travelers. The figure leaves its nearest inter-island rival, Naviera Armas S.A., far behind; the company closed the same time frame with 206,888 users.
The distance between the two operators points to an undeniable leadership scenario in passenger transport. With nearly 400,000 more passengers than Naviera Armas over just ninety days, the yellow-fleet carrier absorbs close to 72% of the total traffic recorded among the main companies connecting Canary ports, consolidating its high-speed model as the preferred mobility option.
Behind the two major passenger firms, volumes on smaller connections and regional passenger lines are divided into significantly smaller shares. Líneas Marítimas Romero S.L. ranks third in maritime mobility with 25,817 users, driven mainly by regular traffic through the La Bocaina strait and the connection with La Graciosa. Meanwhile, Graciosa Mar Cruceros S.L. reaches 12,981 passengers in the same period.
The quarterly maritime transport picture is completed by Compañía Trasmediterránea S.A., which plays a largely symbolic role in inter-island passenger transport, adding just 5,867 users. The overall balance confirms that the bulk of mobility across the islands is concentrated overwhelmingly in the fleet operated by Fred. Olsen, pulling away sharply from the rest of the sector’s competitors.
