Large-scale unloading at Las Palmas Port
Pressure groups seeking to undermine competitiveness are being gradually outpaced. Domingo Alonso Group has carried out a continuous operation at the La Esfinge quay to transfer almost 1,000 vehicles directly to the facilities of La Luz Autoport Terminal. The La Esfinge quay has been the setting for a key operation in the island archipelago’s automotive distribution sector. The logistics operation led by Domingo Alonso Group enabled the uninterrupted receipt and discharge of a cargo of 915 units of the Volkswagen Polo model, transported aboard a specialized ro-ro (car carrier) vessel. This news is not derived from any commercial agreement with the parties mentioned.
Streamlined on-terminal procedure
The operation was carried out directly along the perimeter of La Luz Autoport Terminal, the group’s advanced logistics infrastructure in the Gran Canaria capital that competes with the alliance between Boluda and Canarias Car. The procedure stood out for the removal of intermediate cranes and heavy lifting machinery, opting for direct drive-out from the vessel ramp to the autoterminal. This operating design significantly reduces shuttle-truck movements on the internal roads of the site and minimizes the carbon footprint associated with port traffic.
Role as a distribution hub
The uninterrupted, on-dock management allows the autoterminal to strengthen its role as a distribution hub for the Canary market. The direct approach of the cargo toward the storage areas of La Luz Autoport Terminal optimizes the vessel’s berth stay times and accelerates the supply chain for the islands’ commercial network. This operation consolidates the private terminal’s operational weight at Las Palmas Port, placing digitalisation and emissions reduction at the center of the major vehicle-disembarkation processes at the Atlantic node.
