The map of business power in the maritime sector in the Canary Islands has undergone a profound shake-up, presenting a snapshot of meteoric rises and falls of veterans, where revenue and positioning have become the only valid currency. At the top in Las Palmas, Eyido, the owner of the Russian Norebo Africa subsidiary, which was renamed Casa del Jurel, registered in the ZEC, boasts revenues of almost 152 million euros and has registered assets worth 65.5 million euros. Unión Martín, S.L., owned by the investment bank Alantra, defends its second position with a revenue of 94.5 million euros, despite having dropped 3 positions in the overall ranking. In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canarias de Alimentos, S.A. leads with a rise of 32 positions, accompanied by the advancement of Grupo Inversión Galecan, S.L. (+287) and Estudio de Inversiones Anaga, S.L. (+268).

It is not the only giant on the move: Marpefish, S.L. (the only fishing company in the Canary Islands with a Canarian owner that exceeds 30 million euros in revenue) is hot on the leader’s heels after climbing 20 positions with revenues of 39,459,935 euros. This dynamism at the top is reinforced by other companies with Canarian owners: the rise of Congelados Herbania, S.A. (5 positions up) and the island’s resilience of Freiremar, S.A., which, although it has dropped 13 positions, maintains its status as a corporate benchmark.

The total amount of financial and fiscal support received by Unión Martín, according to detailed reports held by the Treasury, amounts to 2.2 million euros in Regional Incentives, PERTE funds, REF, and repayable financing. Marpefish has accessed 65,050 euros in official aid for external promotion and a modest digital kit of 6,000 euros. The Norebo subsidiary in Las Palmas in the ZEC has received tax savings of 353,265 euros.

The Push from Las Palmas: Three-Digit Jumps

The volatility has been extreme in the eastern province. Fontegro 0309, S.L. has achieved the feat of the year with an increase of 693 positions, closely followed by West Star Ocean Products, S.L. (+551) and Surpesca, S.A. (+492). At the other end of the scale, historic companies like Pescaeste, S.A. (-553), Aframar, S.L. (-368) and Indigo Frozen Seafood, S.L. (-115) suffer the wear of an unyielding market.

The list of those gaining ground is extensive: Invest-Land Canarias, S.L. climbs 43 positions, Junifish, S.L. jumps 226 places, Atlantic Fish & Trading, S.L. rises 245 and Oasisfish, S.L. gains 101. Status improvements are also seen in Distribuciones Insulares Inamer, S.L. (+72), Distribuciones Marzagán, S.L. (+26), Alimentación Integral de Canarias, S.L. (+67), Islafish Import & Export, S.L. (+3), Congelados Pérez, S.L. and Alsamar Fish, S.L. (+85).

Conversely, the pressure has taken its toll on Gestiones Pesqueras Canarias, S.L. (-88), Sea Delight Canada, S.L. (-136), Inescan 99, S.L. (-669), Frigo Martel, S.L. (-11), Mellino, S.L. (-3), Pesca Herculina, S.A. (-110), Ahumados Pescasol, S.L. (-146).

Tenerife: Consolidation and Strategic Niches

In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canarias de Alimentos, S.A. leads with a rise of 32 positions, accompanied by the advancement of Grupo Inversión Galecan, S.L. (+287) and Estudio de Inversiones Anaga, S.L. (+268). In distribution, Importaciones Pesqueras Canarias, S.L. gains 19 positions and Distribuciones Alimenticias Víctor Padilla, S.L. rises 26. Improvements also come from Congelados Taburiente, S.L. (+38), S.C. del Mar Pesca-Restinga (+53) and La Palma Apropesca, S.L. (+35).

However, Teidetuna AIE plunges 457 positions and Salgadislas, S.L. retreats 192. The declines affect Pescados Mauco, S.L. (-2), 02 Arctic Crab, S.L. (-88), Pescados Archipiélago, S.L. This new business order supports the activity of an archipelago where AIEM (Arbitrio sobre Importaciones) grows by 1.31%, reaching a net collection of 257,333,174 euros after managing refunds worth 2,076,337 euros. At customs, the accumulated IGIC on imports totals 705,108,953 euros. Each position on this list reflects the struggle for survival in the Atlantic.

There are people who don’t need to raise their voice to be noticed. He belongs to that rare breed of stubborn observers who understand power as a board to be studied in silence, piece by piece, until it becomes clear who is really moving the pieces. A journalist and analyst by instinct and a storyteller by conviction, his career has unfolded within the folds of power in Tenerife, never losing sight of the Canary Islands, where he learned that the great narratives begin at the margins.
