The Everwood Capital fund, owner of Maresa, has begun to unify brands with the creation of Prontia Logística. The Canary Islands-based company, affiliated with Somar Capital, a historic player in the transport between the archipelago and the peninsula, is undergoing a strategic reconfiguration. Everwood’s goal is not only for Maresa to survive within a fund that already accounts for 12 portfolio companies and 400 million in aggregate turnover, but to become the spearhead of an international-scale forwarding and foreign trade vertical.
The fund has announced that ‘after the creation of Prontia Logística, Everwood Capital has a strong portfolio that includes companies such as Partida Logistics and AGSA within the customs management vertical; Maresa Logística, in forwarding; A Tu Hora Express, in last mile with added value; Transportes Cruz, specialized in international cold transport; and HTG Express, Arin Express, and Trans Paneuropa in express transport.’
Altair
Everwood’s roadmap for Maresa inevitably involves its integration with Altair Consultores Logísticos, which has been incorporated into the fund. This operation is not coincidental: it seeks to strengthen the connectivity of the Canary Islands with the rest of the world. While Prontia specializes in ensuring that fresh products arrive in perfect condition to major chains, the new group formed by Maresa and Altair will be responsible for managing the ‘intelligence’ of that transport. With consolidated sales of 160 million euros and a workforce of 500 professionals, Maresa abandons its regional outfit to lead an operator capable of challenging large multinational companies in the sector.
Integration
The new integration that Everwood seeks for Maresa is based on cross-sector collaboration. The fund is building a network where Maresa brings its historic connectivity in the Canary Islands based on the port of Las Palmas and its experience in maritime traffic, while Altair injects its network in strategic ports such as Valencia, Bilbao, and Cádiz, in addition to its connections in Asia and Latin America.
This represents a comprehensive solution: a Canary Islands company will be able to export or import products under a single financial umbrella (Everwood), where Prontia provides cold chain solutions, and Maresa-Altair handles customs clearance and international transportation.
Under the leadership of Antonio Méndez (from Altair), Maresa now faces the challenge of accelerating its digitalization and adaptation to ESG (sustainability) criteria. Everwood knows that Maresa’s value in the Canary Islands lies in its ability to be agile in a complex geographical environment. Maresa is no longer a loose piece; it is the gear that must ensure that the logistics highway between the Canary Islands and the Peninsula operates with the precision of a Swiss watch, leveraging the robustness already demonstrated by Prontia’s cold chain vertical. Everwood continues to move its pieces. Following Prontia, the goal is for forwarding to be the definitive lever for connecting with increased revenue.
