Pressure to capitalize on Europe’s energy transition continues to reshape debt and private-equity portfolios across Northern Europe. Bonheur ASA, the Norwegian investment vehicle controlled by the Olsen family with interests in offshore wind and maritime services in the Canary Islands, has completed an NOK 800 million green bond issue (approximately $74 million), recording oversubscription in the order books that highlights institutional investors’ appetite for ESG-labelled Nordic corporate debt.
The transaction, structured with a six-year maturity ending in October 2032, was priced at a floating rate equivalent to three-month NIBOR plus an annual spread of 215 basis points. The liquidity raised by the Oslo-based group will be used to finance sustainable projects under its green debt framework, including the refinancing of intercompany loans previously taken out to develop clean assets. DNB Carnegie and Pareto Securities acted as joint global coordinators for the placement, whose bonds will be listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange following a fixed-income investor roadshow launched in late September.
Meanwhile, the infrastructure division of US private-equity giant Blackstone has completed the acquisition of a 24.7% stake in Danish renewable-energy developer Eurowind Energy. The agreement entails a capital commitment of up to DKK 15 billion ($2.3 billion) aimed at accelerating the Nordic platform’s expansion plans across Europe.
The institutional capital injection is intended to quintuple Eurowind’s construction rate by 2030, setting an annual installation target of 1.5 gigawatts (GW) across solar, wind and energy-storage technologies. The Danish company, in which the Norlys cooperative retains a controlling 37.65% stake, had 1.5 GW in operation and 1.3 GW under construction at the end of 2024, backed by a 56 GW development pipeline following the recent absorption of German utility EnBW’s Swedish platform.
