The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Canary Government (CC and PP) has officially announced the award of Lot 1 for the supply and manufacturing of a hybrid plug-in propulsion vessel. The contract has been granted to the company Astilleros del Ulla, S.L., following an open bidding process that assessed the best quality-price ratio among the participants. This unit will be designated for critical tasks of surveillance, monitoring and environmental control of species and protected areas in the waters of the archipelago. The project has an investment of 1,194,000.00 euros (contract price) and is part of a broader strategy funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds. Specifically, the funds come from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, aimed at investment in the conservation of marine biodiversity. In the selection process, Astilleros del Ulla, S.L. obtained an outstanding score of 95 points out of 100, surpassing the other bidding company, Culmar, S.A., which achieved 62.95 points. Among the automatic criteria evaluated, the economic offer, the increase in total length, the vessel’s autonomy, and the extension of the technical guarantee stood out. In contrast, Lot 2 of the original contract, which contemplated the manufacturing of two additional rapid response vessels, was declared void due to no bidders coming forward. The new vessel must be delivered within 12 months from the formalization of the administrative contract. With this acquisition, the Canary Government strengthens its technical means for the study of oceanic marine areas and the protection of its coastline, meeting sustainability and modernization milestones required by the European framework.
