A deflagration at the fuel storage facilities of Grupo DISA, located in the Salinetas industrial estate, has claimed the life of a 47-year-old worker and left two other employees seriously injured. The incident occurred after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while the team carried out scheduled maintenance work on the top section of one of the plant’s storage tanks. The employees are part of Nervion Industries, a subsidiary of the Industrial division of the Amper Group.
Repair and welding work was being carried out by Nervión Industries. As a result of the blast wave, one technician died on the spot, while two colleagues sustained injuries of serious prognosis and were urgently evacuated to the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria and the Hospital Universitario Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín. A fourth professional required medical attention for minor injuries without needing hospitalization.
Competent authorities and personnel from the Forces and Security Corps of the State have opened an investigation to clarify the technical causes that led to the ignition of the tank. The DISA oil company has publicly expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased, confirming its full cooperation with judicial proceedings and the labor inspection inquiry to determine the circumstances of the accident.
The municipal corporation of Telde, led by mayor Juan Peña, visited the industrial site until the emergency operation concluded. The institutional delegation conveyed its condolences to the family of the worker who died and said it hopes for a quick recovery for the operatives who remain admitted at the island’s hospitals.
In the last quarter of 2026, the Industrial division of the Amper Group, Nervión Industrial, has begun three new maintenance contracts at the customer’s facilities: Repsol (and its subsidiary Petronor), at the refineries in Cartagena, Muskiz and its Chemical Plant in Tarragona.
The three contracts total more than €11 million, with 110 people on average—in addition to indirect managers and structural personnel—completing a workforce of more than 400 people carrying out maintenance contracts at Repsol plants across the entire Iberian Peninsula, since these three also add to nine other maintenance contracts that were already underway.
