José Rafael Díaz Hernández has taken over as managing director of Hamilton y Cía, replacing Jorge Marijuán Castro, who is stepping down from the position and from the Transcoma Group’s executive team, according to reports first published by Prensa Canaria outlets La Provincia/Diario de Las Palmas. Díaz Hernández is a career institutional official with previous experience at the port authorities of Tenerife, Almería and Las Palmas. He is a civil servant on leave who will now be tasked with addressing outstanding financial issues and managing business alliances.
Transcoma sources consulted by Canarymaritime on Friday confirmed the news. “The appointment of José Rafael Díaz Hernández, with his diplomatic profile, to Hamilton y Cía’s senior management brings the level of institutional rigor and technical expertise required by a key company in the Atlantic’s logistics infrastructure,” said a senior executive at a ship-sector company in Tenerife who asked not to be named.
Solvency analyses attribute this position of strength to sustained growth in international client acquisition and the profitability of its logistics operations in the Canary Islands. Agencies and financial-information firms familiar with the Canary Islands’ port-finance business highlighted the consignee’s ability to independently maintain high operating margins when the news was confirmed on Friday, separate from the structure of its corporate parent. The same sources said that Hamilton y Cía’s annual accounts support the strength of its operating business, with a return on equity of more than 21%, backed by a positive credit rating reflecting a low risk of insolvency and a strong capacity to generate cash flow.
