Members of the board of directors of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife shared a total of €105,925.30 in attendance fees for meetings during the 2025 financial year, reportedly across 11 meetings. These payments to the authority’s leadership were made amid high operating costs, with the entity also allocating €890,294.87 to advertising, propaganda, public relations, trade fairs and conferences, within an external services budget that came close to €4 million, according to Transparency data provided by the State to Canarymaritime.
Two accounting channels for meetings
The board’s attendance fees were distributed through two different financial channels in the public accounts. Most of the allocation, amounting to €99,694.40, was paid and channelled directly through the external services budget. Meanwhile, €6,230.90 was included under wages and salaries, as it corresponded to board members who are also part of the port authority’s staff.
Travel costs on the rise
Alongside the distribution of attendance fees among board members, the institution’s mobility costs rose significantly. The budget allocated to the entity’s travel allowances and expenses surged to €366,771.19 in 2025, well above the €283,732.98 recorded in the previous financial year. This increase of more than €83,000 in travel costs drove up overall spending on other external services, which climbed to €3,950,743.07 from €3,709,466.78 in 2024.
Breakdown of operating services
Within the same external services budget, the financial report shows significant changes in other areas of activity at the Tenerife port. The cleaning contract absorbed €1,701,984.00, up from €1,363,991.51 the previous year, while advertising and promotional spending fell moderately from the €1,039,090.58 invested in 2024. Insurance premiums reached €504,380.38, while communications costs stood at €274,628.19.
The cost of day-to-day management
The breakdown of the Port Authority’s ordinary management also included €218,665.73 under other losses. This category included €27,931.79 allocated to services and logistics arising from the arrival of cayucos, €100,000 transferred to foundations and €14,930.21 related to the settlement of claims. The bill was completed by €69,022.10 in litigation before the Regional Economic-Administrative Tribunal, €3,109.00 for claims before the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands and €16,410.64 devoted to collecting debts through enforcement proceedings.
