In the maritime sector, visibility is everything. A captain does not enter a narrow channel without updated nautical charts, nor can a port aspire to lead the Atlantic while operating under a fog of opacity. With this premise of a “clear course,” the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife Ports) completed a course-correction maneuver in 2025 that placed its transparency compliance rate at 81.6 percent, according to the latest audit by the Council for Transparency and Good Government (CTBG).
The president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez, implicitly compared this progress with the entity’s logbook, emphasizing that the result “reflects the significant effort made to strengthen transparency and provide citizens with more accessible, clear and up-to-date public information.”
Suárez stressed that advancing “nearly 29 points since 2023 and more than 60 since 2021” is firm proof that the institution is now heading in the right direction, consolidating public trust at the same pace as its docks are modernized. The leap is far from minor. Like a vessel emerging from a dense fog bank into open, clear waters, the Tenerife port authority has climbed nearly 30 percentage points in just two years, compared with the 52.7 percent recorded in 2023.
The effort to improve access to public information has been constant: from a modest 19.5 percent in 2021 to 33.2 percent in 2022, before reaching today’s institutional cruising speed, which is close to an outstanding rating.
Analysis of the CTBG’s logbook shows that the highest level of accuracy is recorded in legally relevant information, where the public entity achieved 100 percent compliance—the equivalent of a perfect berthing maneuver with no room for error. It is followed by institutional, organizational and planning information, at 88.6 percent, while the economic, budgetary and statistical information category reached 78.4 percent.
