The logistics and freight transport sector in the archipelago strengthens its labour stability through the ratification of Rhenus Logistics’ new collective agreement for its operations centre in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Department of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands has made public a regulatory framework that sets the pay and operating conditions for the workforce until 31 December 2028, with retroactive effect from the start of 2025. The agreement safeguards employees’ purchasing power and imposes a labour cost scheme tailored to the operating demands of supplying the islands.
Remuneration
The economic adjustment includes a direct 3% increase to the wage tables for 2025, plus an unconditional additional payment of €50 gross per month per worker, which is consolidated within the base salary. During the three-year period from 2026 to 2028, the company will apply an annual reference rise of 2.5%, linked directly to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). If inflation exceeds 3%, the increase will automatically rise to 3%, while a 2% floor will be set if prices fall below that threshold. These pay improvements may not be offset or compensated for key roles such as drivers, administrators or specialised warehouse workers.
Operations
The establishment of the working calendar sets an ordinary working time of 1,826 hours per year, distributed across 40 hours per week. To cover demand peaks linked to freight traffic, voluntary work on Saturdays and public holidays will involve a fixed gross pay of €38.48 only for reporting to work, to which will be added €12.50 for each hour worked. Regarding any excess of regular working time, the minimum value of overtime is set at €12.50, which may alternatively be exchanged for one and a half hours of paid rest for each hour worked.
Allowances
The regulatory text consolidates the three annual extra payments across 12 monthly instalments and maintains seniority linked to a maximum of six quinquennia, paid at 5% of the base salary until reaching a 30% cap. In addition, Rhenus Logistics will cover lunch allowances worth €12 when service needs prevent staff from taking their usual break, while also paying a gross monthly allowance of €30 to drivers certified to transport dangerous goods.
