Former Norden executive Christian Vinther Christensen drives new maritime brokerage
The former Norden director Christian Vinther Christensen is backing a maritime brokerage firm focused on commodity routes across the African continent, with a presence in Ports of Tenerife. The sea freight transport and commodity logistics market has gained a new player with strong Atlantic ties.
A well-known shipping industry executive, whose career includes senior roles at global giants such as Norden, Western Bulk and Maersk, has officially launched Origin Brokers, a company specializing in maritime brokerage, freight solutions and commercial advisory. It will operate with Tenerife as one of its strategic connections to Africa.
The new company was created to meet what Christensen describes as an underserved segment in maritime intermediation oriented toward the African market. Origin Brokers’ operations are structured through a network linking strategic international offices in Limassol, Dubai and Abidjan, with an outpost in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. From there, it will coordinate support for commercial flows and provide coverage for import and export corridors connecting the Canary Islands with the neighboring continent, with European legal guarantees.
Linking shipowners with commodity trade
The firm’s value proposition is designed to connect cargo owners, shipowners and traders in key sectors including agriculture, mining, energy and industrial commodities. Origin Brokers will offer chartering services for both dry bulk and tanker vessels, in addition to providing market intelligence, commercial consulting and support for maritime operations.
Alongside Christensen, the project is co-founded by Ahmed Harby, a former freight lead at OCI Global and Waterfront Shipping/Methanex, and Henning Fotland, a specialist with decades of experience in bulk freight brokering. The team’s operational return via Tenerife strengthens the island’s position as a logistics hub and business center for shipping corporations operating on Atlantic and African routes, leveraging the network coverage the firm already deploys across more than 50 countries on the continent.
