The nineteenth edition of the awards, held at the iconic Teatro Eslava, consolidates the influence of the Canary Islands’ port authorities in the decision-making processes of the industry and rewards the social sustainability of the Canary Islands ports. One of the most significant moments of the evening for the Canary Islands port landscape was the recognition of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Luz Marina Espiau Moreno, head of Commercial and Business Development at the Tenerife port and a member of the Board of Directors of MedCruise, received an award for the social initiative ‘All Aboard!’.
This project, developed in collaboration with MSC Cruises and the International Cruise Lines Association (CLIA), stands out for its focus on inclusion and the integration of the local community into port activities, a factor that passengers increasingly value in their overall travel experience.
The cruise industry has once again demonstrated its ability to convene in Madrid with the celebration of the XIX Edition of the Excellence Awards. The event, established as the only competition in Spain where the verdict rests solely on the voices of the passengers, has become a prestigious barometer for shipping companies and port managers. In an optimistic environment for the sector, the MedCruise association — the largest organization of cruise ports in the world — took advantage of the gala to reaffirm its institutional leadership and the influence of its members in the national market strategy.
The Secretary General of MedCruise, Nicky Guerrero, was responsible for presenting one of the most coveted awards of the night: the award for Best Expedition Cruise Line 2025, which went to Silversea Cruises. This recognition underscores a growing trend in the luxury market, where exclusivity and remote destinations are gaining ground over conventional routes. The active presence of the MedCruise leadership at the Teatro Eslava reflects the importance of Madrid as a public relations hub, despite lacking a maritime port, acting as a bridge between political decision-makers and global operators.
For ports like Tenerife, integrated into the strategic network of MedCruise, these awards validate a commercial management that combines attracting major shipping companies with operational sensitivity that seeks positive returns in the territory.
