The public entity Canary Ports, under the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, has completed the Smart Ecoports day at the Port of Las Nieves. The sector event concludes with a positive balance of institutional and civil attendance in a key exercise for the validation of the sustainability and digitalization strategy of the autonomous network. This technical meeting served as a stage to highlight the operational integration between maritime infrastructures and their directly influencing communities. The sectorial meeting served as a framework for the official delivery of the Blue Flags of the Canary Islands 2026. The international award has distinguished, for the first time in the history of the autonomous community, six general interest terminals under the direct management regime of the regional Executive. The docks of Agaete, Garachico, Caleta del Sebo, Gran Tarajal, Órzola and Playa Blanca obtained the environmental certification simultaneously. This recognition endorses public investments aimed at port modernization, universal accessibility, maritime safety, and strict control of service water quality. The technical agenda, which began at 10:00 a.m., combined demonstrations of corporate energy efficiency with the enhancement of traditional subsectors along the coast. The program included workshops on technological innovation applied to nautical activities, displays of traditional crafts —such as the maintenance of fishing gear, traps and nets by local groups— and specific exhibition areas for artisanal producers from the region. The autonomous Port Authority used the event to test citizen responses to new digital management tools and the decarbonization model known as Ecoports of the Canary Islands. The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez, linked the success of the certification to the investment efforts of the administration in clean technologies and intelligent connectivity. The government representative took advantage of the sectorial forum to formalize an institutional recognition to key figures in the logistic and industrial development of the Agaete cove, including Andrés Marín Fernández de la Puente, the general director of the shipping company Fred. Olsen, civil engineer Francisco Múgica Henríquez, the chief fisherman of the Fishing Brotherhood, Gabriel Jiménez Cruz, and port officer José Amabe Hernández Valencia. The consolidation of this operational model seeks to reinforce the competitiveness of Canary port facilities against the directives of the European Union regarding green transition. By centralizing environmental management and digital innovation under a single public brand, Canary Ports standardizes efficiency protocols in its passenger and fishing terminals. The milestone of Agaete sets the regulatory standard for the rest of the Canary port network, directing future budgets towards infrastructures capable of reconciling daily commercial traffic with the ecological preservation of coastal environments.
