Calzada denies Canarymaritime claims of CC pressure to remove Las Palmas Port director
Beatriz Calzada, president of the Las Palmas Port Authority, has forcefully denied on Monday that she received instructions or demands from her own party, Coalición Canaria (CC), to dismiss the institution’s director, Francisco Trujillo. The presidency cabinet said it is deeply upset with reports by Canarymaritime suggesting there was an immediate cese order before the end of summer. The port authority’s official version describes those claims as false and categorically denies that the leadership of the nationalist party has exerted any pressure on Calzada to force the replacement of the veteran senior official.
The controversy stems from the internal crisis of the Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation after the forced resignation of its manager, Betsabé Morales, following irregularities in her payrolls identified by Puertos del Estado. Various critical sectors within the party argue that Trujillo showed inaction and omission in providing legal protection to Morales (CC), by failing in his duty of oversight as a foundation member and a senior post at the Las Palmas Port Authority. Those positions maintain that keeping the director in place amounts to an unsustainable political challenge.
The debate also extends to Francisco Trujillo’s administrative track record, questioned after it was confirmed that his professional biography was removed from the port authority’s transparency portal on June 12, 2026. Calzada’s team rejects any prior link between the director and the Tourism Board of Gran Canaria as reported, and says he comes from the private sector. The presidency cabinet has said it will verify the executive’s work history in the public sector, including any possible historical ties to Megaturbinas Arinaga and the Sociedad de Promoción Económica de Gran Canaria (Spegc). Megaturbinas Arinaga is a company in which the Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation has a stake.
