Boluda will have a dedicated workshop in Arrecife
The Port of Arrecife will host a workshop dedicated to the maintenance, repair and comprehensive outfitting of maritime containers. The Port Authority of Las Palmas activated this July the administrative procedure to grant the concession of a public plot of 5,068 square meters to Boluda Container Factory, a subsidiary of the shipping group Boluda Shipping.
The facility will be located within the port’s service area
The new technical installation will occupy the plot defined in Functional Area 5 of the service area of the Lanzarote port. The workshop’s operations will include repairs to the metal structure of traditional dry containers and specialized technical inspection of refrigerated units (reefers), a critical facility for maintaining the cold chain in the food supply across the Archipelago.
Administrative resolution and signing process
The agreement adopted by the Board of Directors of the port body, signed by Francisco Javier Trujillo Ramírez, transfers the signing authority to the Presidency to speed up the adjudication timelines. The administrative resolution states that the plot will retain its industrial use linked to commercial goods traffic, requiring completion of the project competition processing before the signing of the deed for delivery of the land.
Decentralizing technical assistance for its container fleet
Boluda Container Factory’s opening of the workshop responds to the corporation’s strategy to decentralize technical assistance services for its container fleet. The company, which manages similar operations at connection nodes such as Cádiz and the island terminals, will reduce downtime for damaged units by avoiding the need to move the equipment to other islands or to the Peninsula for repairs.
Boost for port capacity in cabotage traffic
The arrival of this industrial activity in Arrecife strengthens the port’s operational capacity in cabotage traffic. Having a repair center within the dock itself will ensure a continuous stock of containers suitable for loading, optimizing the rotations of the vessels dedicated to provisioning Lanzarote and consolidating the offer of logistics services within the port domain.
